NRA Home Firearm Safety

Non-shooting - classroom only - course and teaches students the basic knowledge, skills, and to explain the attitude necessary for the safe handling and storage of firearms and ammunition in the home. This is a four-hour course for safe gun handling that is conducted in the classroom only. Students are taught NRA’s three rules for safe gun handling; primary causes of firearms accidents; firearm parts; how to unload certain action types; ammunition components; cleaning; care; safe storage of firearms in the home; and the benefits of becoming an active participant in the shooting sports.

Course meets & exceeds Maryland Handgun Qualification License (HQL) Requirements (with live-fire component), including Conflict Resolution, Anger Management and Suicide Prevention for Firearm Owners.

What Students Should Bring to Class:

  • Comfortable non-restrictive clothing.

  • No open toe shoes

  • No loose fitting or low cut tops

  • Note taking materials

Expect the start time to be the start time listed in the class registration.

Location:

Classes will be held in Hunt Valley. Range time will be held at the Guntry range in Owings Mills, MD.

Students will receive the NRA Home Firearm Safety handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Basic Firearm Training Program brochure & receive an NRA course completion certificate. This course will satisfy all requirements of the Maryland State Police HQL, but GTS cannot guarantee the applicant will receive a permit from the Maryland State Police.
