NRA Personal Protection Outside The Home

The NRA Personal Protection Outside The Home course teaches students the knowledge, skills & attitude essential for avoiding dangerous confrontations & for the safe, effective and responsible use of a concealed pistol for self-defense outside the home. The course offers the essential knowledge & skills that must be mastered in order to carry, store, & use a firearm safely & effectively for personal protection outside the home. Students spend several shooting hours on the range learning advanced shooting skills. Students will receive Advanced Level Two course completion certificate. Our NRA "Gold Standard" expectations & requirements are high, therefore increasing defensive skills needed for survival.

Prerequisite: NRA Basics of Personal Protection In The Home Course. Participants must also understand the basic legal concepts relating to the use of firearms in self-defense, must know & observe general gun safety rules, and those safety principles that are specific to defensive situations.

What Students Should Bring to Class:

  • Comfortable non-restrictive clothing.

  • No open toe shoes

  • No loose fitting or low cut tops

  • Lunch

  • Note taking materials

  • Handgun - Rentals available for $15 plus ammo (market price)

  • Outside the waistband holster w/belt

  • Concealment garment

  • 2 magazine pouches

  • 3 magazines

  • 300 rounds of ammunition

Day One - Classroom lessons, demos & hands-on dry-fire drills.

Day Two - Indoor range - conducting live-fire instruction, defensive pistol drills, shooting qualifications & written exam. Students need a firearm, holster, concealment garment, 2 magazine pouches & 300 rounds of ammo.

Expect the start time for both days to be the start time listed in the class registration.

Location:

Class location will vary within Baltimore County. Range time will be held at the Guntry range in Owings Mills, MD.

Students will receive the NRA Guide: Basics of Personal Protection Outside The Home handbook, NRA Marksmanship Qualification Program Booklet, take a PPOTH Student Examination & receive an NRA course completion certificate.
